Would like to know about importing a boat from the States. The cost is approx. 10000 USD. How much could i add to this if I import it? Thx.

I stand to be corrected - last I checked was 7% duties plus 14% vat.
If with motors it could change depending on capacity.

The General Cost Chain for importing is structured as follow not only for boats but more or less any item imported :

1) Price of item
2) FOB ( Free On Board ) charges (Departure Port) - all the costs of getting the item into or onto its shipment vessel -postage box/containers/bulk carrier.
a)Transport
b)Storage cost
c)Clearing
d)Terminal handling
e)Any Specialized logistical costs.

3)SeaFreight - a 40ft container to the USA costs +- $6100 incl BAF (price of oil)so assuming the same costs from USA to SA

4)Fob costs (Arrival Port)

5) Import Tax - 7% + 14% VAT on Commercial invoice.

* a $10 000 boat can very easily cost $20 000 considering the cost chain, import costs seem less relevant to more expensive boats as relatively to cheaper boats.
