Please help. I have a Unique Superduck boat with a 2006 Johnson 115hp Salwater Edition engine. The engine is too strong for the boat and I want to replace it. My question is which way to go - Yamaha, Evinrude, Suzuki, Honda etc.? I would appreciate some info from anybody with a knowledge of engines and where I should go to get the best deal, as I also need to sell the current engine.

Remember a Bugatti can also drive at 60km/h.
You don't have to drive at full throttle all the time.
But if it is a weight problem I will stay away from the 4stroke motors as they are heavier.
The Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki ... are all good motors in their own way just remember that new motors are VERY expensive and you wont get allot for your old motor.
If you search the site you will find many discussions about all the types of motors. Depends I guess what size you want to downgrade to?
I see most people run 2 50hp motors on the super ducks so your 115 should be 100% on the mark as 2 50 should give you more pull away speed but just a little less top end than a single 115.

Depending on what you mean by over powered, you may want to play with the prop. If you are revving more than 5500 at top end you could go to a bigger or higher pitch prop to bring the revs down. It will also be less explosive on pull away and with power to spare you will b e doing the same speed as now at lower rpm. Not sure in your case but normally explosive hole shot acceleration will give you the feeling that you are over powered.

I also have a Unique 540 but fitted with 2x 50hp Mariners 2 strokes - am quite happy with performance, on plane in well under 10metres. I would say the 2x50's (+/- 195kgs total)are max weight on transom. Can not comment on single 115 on this boat though.
