Howzit guys any opinion on the Blue Marlin Magnaflex Surf rod, its a 1 pc and I think it is 13ft. Did a search, but other than Kumz auctioning one off there are no posts about the rod. I saw some guys have got this rod however.

Any experiences, any idea of roughly what it should cost, where I can get more info, etc. Any advice appreciated. Tight lines!

If I'm not mistaken it is a fibreglas rod, in which case I would stay away from it. They aren't expensive at all

Hi , It is not expensive & it is a fibreglass rod ,

Excellent shad or Edible rod !!

What are you targeting ??? Ed's or Non Ed's ??
Cheers

Edibles. I am looking for something a little longer than the rod I have at the moment, I can't reach over the rocks at the harbour wall let alone over the beach. I don't want to break the bank either, gonna use my 285 with it... the nearest beach is Strand 20 km away, I want to pop over there to wet a line rather than looking for a harbour wall. But nothing too serious, eds. I saw you had one Kumz, but didn't use it much? Thanks

Well I just bought a out the box BM g3 14 4-6 about 1/2 hr ago in EL for R600. Bargain. Those old glass rods not great. Rather spend a few bucks extra and get a decent rod.

I have seen these rods in stock at Sportsmans warehouse for around 450. I agree with some of the other replies though, you could get a better rod for not much more particularly at Suburban spares. I wanted that same rod but ended up spending 900 on a Shimano exage 1446. I have had it for 15 months now and I am not sorry...you can pull a car out the water with it.

Well, how does R329 for the rod sound? Thats pretty cheap - if it were nearing the R500 mark my eye would definately be drawn towards something better.

I realise that graphite is the modern material, but is fibreglass fundamentally flawed? I was under the impression that before graphite, fibreglass was all the rage

So was a Model T ford the rage before the Golf GTI came along, or the BMW 3 series etc. Glass is old technology. Great if you fishing amongst the bamboo forest for shad on durban pier as not as fragile as graphite, but Its old technology, does the job but there is better out there for your bucks.

BARGAIN - Understatement of the century!  That is an awesome price.

For 329, why not! My fishing partner is a 70 year old seasoned angler. Has an old marlin rod and a jigmaster 500....HE CATCHES MORE THAN ME...AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

My old man still fishes with the exact same rod and with all my fancy equipment he still manages to get the same distance as me.

I must throw twice the distance with the newer graphite sticks compared to the old glassfibre jobs, I now throw 50m ROFL!!!!! No problem with them though, they're fine for eds.
