Hi Ad goose

Where will u be staying?

Blue lagoon is the mouth of the Umgeni River. Facing the sea , the North bank will be on your left and the South bank on your right heading towards town. If you have a surfski or canoe of some sort rowing across the Lagoon will be the quickest option. There are parking facilities on the North side of Bridge where the Mangrove swamps are. I am almost sure however that gaining access through the mangroves will not be allowed as it is controlled by MCM and is mostly used for guided tour groups. The North Bank is an excellent area for fishing.

Dropshot fishing can be practised at the river mouth, in the lagoon area , near the first bridge and all along the river bank untill you reach the second bridge. The south side of the river banks are easier to access than the northern side. I have mainly caught Perch and Sandfish, also called Bartails. Other fish you could catch on dropshot would be River Snapper, Grunter, Springer, Cob and small Kingfish. You will have to adopt a huge amount of patience and persaverance to catch a fish. Many TV shows and you tube clips make dropshot fishing look so easy. It is if you are at the right place at the right time with the right colour and shape artificial bait.

Heading towards town, South bank You will have a possibility of landing a Cob , Shad, King fish, Natal Snoek. All of these fish are also a possibility on the Nortbank area. On the town side there are a few piers you could try. Check the tides as during a spring low tide, The Sunkist Pier, Suncoast Pier and the Snakepark pier the water is practically ankle deep on the sides.

When you get to Durbs give me a shout, 0766697521, I will give you more advice.

Cheers.
