I want all the tips you guys can give me on Bloemhof catfish! Best traces, bait, where to catch etc etc etc! Alo any tips on flies and lures! We are going the end of November, so any tips on this month would be appreciated! We are mostly going to fish of a boat! Is there any way to make a good feeding spot for them?

Do a search under baby chicken ,there was some nifty hints of how to pre-bait an area, that you intend to fish the following day.At Bloemhof I would cruise around looking for a likely "sloep" that maybe has some barbel activity, and then pre-bait that area for the following day.I t is a practice that the light -tackle boat guys apparently use with great succes, the next day you can either bait up with whatever you used as feed(unborn-chicks) or use art-lure in the area .The good old standby "plattie" also works wonders ,but do check with legislation first ,as there is not always clarity regarding the use of these as bait(endangered/protected/prohibited).

I have heard that some dogfood pellets also do the trick as ground-feed for cats and that would be more convenient.Cannot say for sure as it is hearsay, but it does make sense,as they use a lot of maize in most dogfood-brands.

Cant think of anything else at the mo,but will post as suggestions arise.

1. take a shot gun and shoot 15 mossies/doves

2. defeather them 80% and let them get bit vrot

3. groundbait with them in good looking spot as suggested by other members

4. stick a hook thru a mossie and wait for the tug

pipeman if you're willing to spend some cash then contact Henkor in pretoria.they sell awesome feed for barbels, from chicken blood to bait balls consisting of blood, fishmeal etc.blood works best to attract barbel.
