Bloemhof Dam report???

Hey all, heading out to Bloemhof dam for the first time from the 13 - 16 Nov. Thinking of going to Sandveld. Anyone wet a line there lately? Gonna target some carp but the real reason I am goin is for the cats, I am goin for my PB! Gotta beat 18kgs. Any reports lately, baits working, conditions etc etc. And have I made the right choice by selecting Sandveld as my chosen venue at Bloemhof:fishn? I know to use carp heads but would like to target them on oversized boilies etc too. How often do you get snagged up and is it a major problem at the dam? Are all the spots the same regarding snaggs? Havnt seen many reports on Bloemhof lately...

Bruggie went to Sandveld about 3 weeks ago and had a jol.Some nice Carp that came out (biggest was just under 10kg) and some nice Snorre (about 10kg).Unfortunately they didnt get the serious size ones,but maybe it was still a bit early in the season for them.

He has posted a report about the trip on Sealine,but I cant find it for the life of me.

Will let you know when I find it.

Thanks Carp1, atleast I know now it will be worth the trip out there! What u get those big carp on Bruggie? Nice fish hey! WoW... Well done on those catches. I have a few questions: Are there ablution blocks there? Can you drink the tap water, if any taps? Where is the deeper water, Sandveld OR bloemhof nature reserve? Please any info I can get would help me a great deal.. Big J

Brug,aangesien jy die fishies gemolesteer het en daar was is die water en aas jou indaba.

Big J,I prefer a spot about 200m before you get the bridge.Its got deep water within casting range (60-120m),but usually the big ones come out at about 150m.

Well we cought alot of fish on Garlic(Anything on the hook).The bigger ones came out on your everyay KOO mielies Plain.

As for the ablusion, yes ther is toilets and the water is drinkeble.The showers at the gate is clean and now problem with clean or hot water.

Both.Just before you drive into Bloemhof town you turn left on the Hoopstad road.Just before you get to the dam you have the entrance for NW on the left.Then you drive over the bridge across the dam,and immediately you turn right into Sandveld.

You can fish next to the bridge from NW and Sandveld,but I believe Sandveld to be better water.

As jy vir karp gaan sal ek aanbeveel om met `n vrugte dip by enige kombinasie te sit wat jy gebruik.

Ek het lekker daar gevang met FX Perdeby en Fruitex in die oggend.
In die aand het ek meer sterker reuke gebruik soo paint en bunspice....maar het altyd iets vrugterig by gesit...

Just a thought...u know use it dont use it.

Also going to bloemhof over the easter weekend...

Any other tips on the barbels? wana catcha mutha!!! 

so, will most likely be going to sandveld just acros the bridge, so confused on all of this..

Do you have to book? any one have contact numbers by chance?  N maybe know how much it is per night  n if theres electricity?

Jus sux going 350k's n not knowing what to expect n all of that....

Any help will be much appreciated...

not elec there by the bridge.. also far from the nearest showe etc... personally i would drive past the closest shower and go and use the showers next to the chalets. Ice and wood for sale at the gate, Think i paid about 300 for 3 nights and 4 days in december, you pay per car and not per stand. Smaller carp were all over so upgrade your baits to bigger and ougher baits and deeper. Upgrade your barbel line!!!!

no bookings... get "sandpenne" as the level islow and you will have to pitch the tent and gazebo on the beach, grass will be at least 50m away thus also no natural shade

The light situe, we have a whole load of headlamps and a gas lamp and usually take a load of wood, we also have a beacon (polistyrene block) with some led"s n solar lights on it.....  a long rope and a brick... best idea ever! works lika charm!

Do you know if theres any places there we can get some day old chics for the barbels?
Any other tips on any fish??
