WOW thanks Enigma.
That is so sad to see Bloemhof with all those hyacinth.
Will be going to Koppies this weekend.

Trust me the fish are wild and biting well so camp at the river and go fish on the side of the dam that has no Hyacinth and make sure you know what the forecast wind for the day is.

Both Koppies and Roodekoppies are fishing very well. If you can get into the camping area (space allowing) you will get good fish at Roodekoppies (Carp / Cats and Kurper)

The Hyacinths are all in the river between the Barrage and Potch and wash down with the floods.

I must say they are then well managed in the dame when there and once the dam settles

My advise....... go fishing

If you want more fish go to Koppies

If you want bigger fish go to Roodekoppies.

I can just imagine the chaos and lack of space for the upcoming Bonanza. So good to see the dam full again but a pity about the hyacinth.

Thanks for the pics and the feedback Enigma.

Regards to all

On the NW side areas like Verlatenkraal, Volstruisbaai, Jag Kamp and the Day Fishing area are very shallow and in places the dam has come up 400-600m on the bank and a huge part of it was overgrown with grass so you'll have to fish thick line with 1 hook traces to improve chances of landing fish.

Bamboespruit (the channel area) is straight into deep sandy area so fishing will be better but in the Spruit itself fishing will be almost impossible

Last year at the bonanza i could not believe how many people were bank angling and how close they were pegged to each other.... these hyacinth are going to make live a misery for the bank anglers. The bonanza is a massive comp with over R500000-00 in ticket sales so surely the organizers will try and clear this mess to accommodate more anglers and if not them then surely the local municipality will try and save the day to ensure their town income from the hundreds if not thousands of people attending.

I think the organizers should seriously consider this and also do their PR to show the progress now to keep anglers at ease. With the Harties comp on the same weekend with the North Gauteng LTB comp on the Saturday they are talking about R1,5 million in prizes so this could maybe be more attractive for someone nervous about driving 350km's to take hyacinth out of the water all weekend.

I fish the bonanza from my boat but do simpithize with bank anglers as fishing is expensive and wasting your precious time with hyacinth can quickly spoil the comp.
^^..
