jip... those will be fine, can even use a shorter rod unless you will be casting. Just rig everything like you want to cacth a shark and you will get catfish. Get some during the day fish at night. BIg carp baits, even whole carp baits of up to a kg, some guys go bigger but i prefer a 500grm carp to 1kg. 2 hooks portruding from the bait, fins off, mash if fulle of holes and wait.

Ditto what Unlimited said. If I can just ad, try and catch yourself some Grass Carp during the day to target the Cats at night as Unlimeted mentioned above. It seems like Grass Carp is like a drug for the Bloemhof's Cats. I'm one of those guys that will rig bigger baits like a 3 kilo plus Carp but again it is each for itself. Also try to get your baits out about 200 - 250 meters at Sandveld if you are going to be fishing there as the old river bed flows there. Always a good spot to start off with. Also try to get the stand as close to the bridge as possible and then your day old Chickens will come into play.

Most of all have fun, Bloemhof is a barbel mega.

at sandveld just cast as far as you can, make streamlined fillet baits...long and thin

was there in Feb and about 110m out the water got deep.... Walk the shoreline that the wind is blowing into you will find bait washing up... we even found a live 4kg grass carp that was stunned and swimming on its side, it had a big barbel bite on its head. I also caught(picked up) a 9.5kg barbel that was cruising around in ankle deep water
