went out to blakes on wednesday night, chucked in a neatly prepared chokka bait and got picked up by something biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig!! the fish took about 30 to 50 m line before i could stop it,it then proceeded to tail dance a few times, then snapped my paltry 9kg fluoro trace like cotton...

after tying on a new trace with 16kg flouro (difficult to say the least with all that adrenalin pumping), launched another chokka bait and got picked up again..this time the fish took off steadily making my sealine x30's drag scream! after a few minutes  i felt my .55 maxima leader rubbing over the reefs....and then snap!! fish off..eish smoked twice in one night!!

my guess..the 1st one possibly a leerie, the second maybe a large spotty, will never know, but i'll be back tonight with suitable tackle to do battle again.

Just on those elf , caught both on the chokka (39cm & 33cm), wacked a whole chokka head on and they grabbed it big time , strange when i has pilchard only , there were small fries nibbling but no takes

Might have been a duckbill, catch many of those in the strand during summer onchokka baits, but could of been a spotty or smooth hound

At Blakes I would say you got smoked by a spotty the second time. Had that happen to me quite a few times. Once I got smoked no fewer than 10 times. Bzzzz.... Put drag nearly on full, still takes line, then snap, off on the reefs...

A big elf will also taildance.
Morne Visser (Falsebay) was fishing for kob once (I think at Mnandi) with a small chokka bait on a small 45lb bleeding wire trace and got picked up and unbelievably landed a 100kg bronzy. Bronzies also jump sometimes so don't discount a smallish bronzy as there are plenty around the reefs at the moment. I don't see a spotty jumping and an elf won't pull you that hard.
