Blaauwpan Report

Hi guys

So I fished Blaauwpan yesterday for he very first time. Got there at about 6:20 and was the second car inline to go in. Gates opened at 7 and I found a spot about 100m to the right of the first reeds under the trees.

Everything was set up quick and not to long and I got my first bite for the day. A small barbel caught on floaty and dough backing with bunspice and garlick on the bomb.

After that fish life became hell for me! I lost 2 fish, casted my leaders of, casted bombs off... If something could go wrong it did! At about 2 I managed to regain my composure and started landing fish at a decent tempo. At this stage I was casting a M1,5 and a P4....

I was getting my fish on Bliksem 5 and Bliksem 13 from hookit along with a mielie on each hook. No monsters as yet, but decent sized fish!

(And myself getting over exited about the higher tempo!)

At about 4 I saw some fish turning shallow, like at 15m and put a bait there on a 7ft rod just to see if it works... 2 small plain floats and a clean bomb. The rod was in the water about 5 minutes when it happened!

All in all it turned out to be a good day! I managed to lang 8 fish for the day (with the biggest being just over 4kg) (excluding my PB), allthough I lost 3 fish, one that we saw just before loosing it that could easily have been 7kg+!

I did however learn a couple of lessons...

1. Distance and kolgooi is key to blaauwpan
2. NEVER EVER underestimate mielies and
3. Rather leave your bait to long than to short a time if social fishing at this venue!



Oh.....

And remember sunscreen... I'm looking and feeling like a tomato lobster cross....

Hi Dewald.I battled at Bloupan,blanking the first 4 attempts. Like you said leave the baits in for langer and you will be rewarded. Also lost a beast last weekend.

Good luck,let me know if you fish there again,might swing by.
