Can anyone tell me if blaasoppies hamper other fish from biting?
Reason that im asking is that a couple of weeks back i saw a guy pull out more than 10 blaasoppies cast after cast and i mean cast after cast twice hooking 2 at once on prawn. The poor guy jst sat there in disbelief!
And then obviously yestaday the same thing happened to me :(
can anyone assist?:ifishin

would make the most sense to me that the blaasoppies arrive when there is a sudden change in water temp - this would be the main reason why the rest of the fish have stopped biting - generally speaking, fish do not like sudden changes in water temp

this is the most logical explanantion to me - experiment by taking water temp when blaasoppies are biting and then again when the other fish bite and there no blaasoppies - would be interested to know the result?

just my 2c

Good point. I know that when I'm fishing at de mond and I catch a sand shark the water is too cold. Bye-bye grunters. They are good fun on light tackle though.

Thanx guys !
The water was rather cold sunday so it seems that they do bite when water temperatures are colder and other fish jst chill.
Will check whats gna happen this sunday gonna try strandfontein tidal pool.

What i can tell u is that i've never caught anything on a hook that has caught a blaasoppie. That slimy mucus of theirs on ur hook, nothing else will take it. I suspect if you changed your hook you might have also caught some of the fish ur neighbour was catching maroodt.

I think the problem with blaasoppies is that when they move in, they do it in big numbers, and i've never known them to be fussy eaters so my view is the simply swamp your bait before the other fish even know it's there...
