Hi there, Newbie here on the site, and I must congratulate all involved - it is great, but almost too good - navigating to find exactly what you need is almost as confusing as that damn goggle site.

I have a 7 year old son who is absolutely mad about fishing. We go almost every weekend to Rietvlei (in Tableview), and are well rigged and versed in the fresh water "papgooi" angling environment.

However, he has been nagging and carrying on for me to take him "Beach Fishing". At present the only equipment I have is a couple of reels and rods inherited from the wife's grandfather.

Is there any kind sole out there who is prepared to give us some hands-on advice and information as to how to go about it? we are purely recreational anglers and not really keen to get into all the seriousness of club angling (that will probably come later).

Safety is of a fair concern for me, especially as the little one gets a little bored and likes to explore the area. I am also worried about the tendency nowadays for your vehicle to be either stolen or broken into.

I went on a scouting trip to Melkbos, and all the beaches along the western seaboard (did not get a really good reception from the locals fishing anywhere). Like the idea of Lagoon beach - gives wifey a place to burn in the sun as well.

I stay in the Northern Subs, I would like to get the equipment I have to someone and see if it worth anything, and get some practical advice about what we need, regulations, etc.

Thanks

Bernie

If I can get commission for every time I've gave this advice I would have been a rich man, but here goes.

Contact the guys from Sealine Social Edibles Club (SSEC:WC), they are a family orientated social club that target edible fish around the Cape Town area.

pm Kaspaas, Rinex, Strepie or Marthin (there's more) and get yourself and the kid involved.

Search for SSEC:WC on Sealine if you want more info.

Yup, make contact with us. Can't go wrong! he he

Ek sien jy was papgooier van up country? Rietvlei en Harties, asook Roosdeplaat was my "hunting grounds"in my vorige lewe lank lank gelede toe ek nog in Pretoria gewoon het.

Bernie, if you interested, contact us and maybe attend one of our Club meetings. We normally have one Club outing per month and one meeting. I suggest you read through the posts on the SSEC:WC sub-forum on this web site. It is basically almost at the bottom of the homepage. Pm me if you interested.

Thanks for the replies and advice guys - have already followed them up. It's much easier getting gen from a humanoid than trying to sift through all the info on the interweb. Hope to be chatting and seeing you all soon.
