Hi all. I got a call from my wife this morning asking me if I could come to her work. Her boss bought a crab from one of the local illegal bait collecting guys. He was offered the crab and saw that it was still alive. He promptly paid the guy R50 for it. I know we should never support these people, but I recently told him the story about xplorer50 that bought the turtle to save it. http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=21439&forum_id=8 . I collected the crab and returned it at in a secluded area. Man, it feels great to be able to save something from certain death. Oh yes, I measured it across it's carapace and it measured 205mm! A whopper!

Deadliest Catch comes to Knysna. Boet, that's a big one. Maybe he's been chowing all the fish you haven't caught!!!! Shot Hermann.  Mana for releasing that one.

Thanks guys. I don't know much about them but I am going to do some research. I am also going to think twice before I wade again in the lagoon. :cry1:ssswim:

That is indeed a noble action but it does not stop that problem but in fact dangles the carrot which inturn, i am affraid has the exact opersite end result!

Great stuff SAFish, well done.  Some years ago Natal Parks Board set up a news story about crayfish poached and hidden in a pit latrine to keep them alive, to sell to passing tourists.  Newspapers bought it and ran the story with photo's.  No-one could sell crayfish to passing motorists for ages after that..!  Would be a good idea to do the same with crabs..!?
