Today I had a charter with 2 guys from Welkom down on a holiday... the day started off with a 5:00am launch. Weather conditions looked good SE to SW wind up to 12 knots with a 1.5 – 1.9m swell. The water temp. on Number 1 didn’t get above 22.9°C, so the water is still cold. It was not long before we hit a school of Bonnie’s and had all 5 lines go... seeing the faces of my Clients is priceless when this happens, as you can see them looking at the rods to see which one they should get first and which one is going to have the bigger fish!!! This time though, they were in luck, as 2 of the 5 rods had good strong runs. After clearing the smaller Bonnie’s they were rewarded with 2 nice 5 - 7kg Bonnie’s… on the second pass the one reel took off like a jet plane ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. My first thought was that this is running like a YFT… however after a long and tiring fight, we managed to boat a 9 - 10kg Bonnie - this was a beaut of a fish and gave us a fight second to none… and one I am sure my clients will never forget. Later on in the trip, we boated a few small Slingers and a couple of Trigger Fish (all released). Total Fish count = 15 x Bonnie’s, 4 x Slingers, 2 x Trigger Fish … Oh! And another TAXED HAT (they seem to like those leather hats!!!)
