BETT Leg at Harties

Well Saturday started off at 4:00 for me to get the car packed and hitting the road to harties. We got to a cold harties and got the boat in the water with a smell that was hanging around like a rotten fart under a sheet on your bed. The only difference was that we could not lift the sheet to get rid of the smell.

We drew our number and we got 56. So we had to wait for a while before we could start.

They announced our number and we were off deciding to head to deep water as water temp was only 17 degrees. We headed to the train bridge as a couple of the pro’s did as well. Where some good fish was landed the last wile. But that we only found out after the comp. We hanged around there till about 10:00 and decided to try a different spot as the only fish that came out from there was a Barbell that was taken on Soft plastic by Shandon from Boat center.

We headed up to the river right on the other side of harties to some submerged timber and fished Senko’s extremely slow. And what felt to me like my mojo sinker being stuck between rocks was in actual fact a fish.  After about 5min of trying to get my line lose and all of a sudden seeing the line swim of made for some great excitement on our boat as to as far as we knew NO body landed a fish yet.

After a nice fight the Fish was boated and weighed in at 850grams which is not big but on hearties is a Fish as to fishing in general was extremely poor there and most people blanking.

We had to make a dash to the weigh station as the fish started turning and did not look good and we did not want the same result as Witbank with fish dying. After weighing the fish we headed back to our spot but nothing. The ESA Bass show people came up and had an interview with us so watch ESA Bass this week you will see me. We fished there for a while and left to head to Pecanwood Estate. As we got there I had my Senko in the water and bam on to a fish but it was only a rat and could not be weighed. So we decided to call it a day and head back. So we only weighed in one fish.

As far as I know most of the people blanked including some of SA’s top anglers. But the winning bag was just over 7Kg’s. Unfortunately I could not attend price giving as I had problems with the Landrover’s Alternator pacing up and had to try and get the car running so I don’t know where we finished or how the other guys did. I will post the results as soon as it is available.

Some pics of our harties comp.
