Umm any where where there are shad if there are shad the garrik are not far behinde..best bet kzn south coast look for a nice sand beach and deep water neer by the sand bank's ...

i have been spending my early mornings spinning for garrick along the long beach stretch between tongaat river mouth and ballito, so far the garrick have been playing the game and i have landed a few good fish with a decent shad in between. the best spoon by far has been the couta s, with gold tape on the flat section, second the brass and silver bullet spoon ( this spoon i use when the surf is up and i need to cast a little further to reach good water) the best success so far has been to walk down the beach keeping a look out for rips running off the banks, cast accross the rip and wind the spoon fairly slowly, the garrick cant seem to resist it.

using a possiedon hmg medium matched with a saltist 40 reel, a short flourocarbon ,57 leader( the fish are too wise for any thicker leader) , i have thrown plugs, the nylon chisel nose but so far the spoon has produced the majority of action, they keep boiling on the plug but just wont commit. could be the very clean water at the moment, they may eat the plug better with a little color in the water, i will keep you posted.
