Wha ha haaa! like your style J, I was at a dam in Benoni one weekend and got damned annoyed with a certain pg who kept casting skew over my already established lines STRAIGHT ahead of me. lol a joke now, but I told him if he does it again i would cut his line off...lol! he laughed and said that would never happen, and promptly did it again, Well, i was ready to retreive lines and picked my rod up and struck in true pg style... wha hahahaa his mielie bomb came flying past my ear and his line was off! chuckle! he was most disgusted with me, but I warned him... braid eats light mono for breakfast. Dont think he's gonna do that again....he he he!

Tjoona, its best to go into the water, your other lines are lower there, about knee deep, with a low drag on the spool for that spook moment, and if you have a buddy, let him net. Usually you play the fish to the net and not net towards the fish...(the latter is a sure way to spook them.) This is where 90% of dropped fish occure. Sometimes the fish kites to one side, out of the way of lines looking for refuge in reeds and structures, thats cool,but then you gotta break his run in time, actually thats the right way to do it, manipulating the fish gently to where you want to net him, away from other lines. Sometimes even going out in a boat to land fish is better, specially as we have more than one line out, pods? 3 - 4 rods and then fellow anglers next to you... eish can be a real nightmere sometimes..lol! Definitely boating if theres a snag up.... I will go to the snagged fish rather than snap a line anyday, even in crap weather!
Depends where you are fishing, how far out and number of snags etc, if you are in big waters far out with lots of snags then its always good to go and fetch the fish on a canoe or inflatable, in smaller dams like Rushmere at close distance you can land the carp up against the bank.
