Best fishing outfit for Henties

Hi guys,

What type of clothing can one use when in Namibia, Henties etc (for end November early December). One needs protection from the sun and something for the cold water especially early morning. During the day it can get quite warm also. I previously used a wader and it worked well except for getting very hot during midday :SSS. It made walking and bending down to re-bait cumbersome but worked well for the cold water.

The shirt/ jacket shown on the sealine logo looks like a good idea (long sleeves, light quick dry fabric that fits loosely). Where can one get such a shirt?

I've seen the threads about rash vests and farmer john wetsuits but I think these might be to hot too. Any other ideas/ comments?

Namibia sun, will burn you to bits i wore a long sleeved shirt, the light fabric type a tracksuit pants and a pair of neoprene socks. Even if there is mist youll burn even worse just ask Simon, dont forget a decent hat the ones that the cricket guys use

Yes, I agree you have to have respect for the sun especially there with no shade for miles!

The trick is to stay covered up without getting hot. Track suit pants will stay wet for long making it uncomfortable especially when the wind picks up (at least for me).

I've got a light skin so I burn quite quickly. Not pleasant if, after day one, your legs are toast with five or six days still to go... Love fishing hate sunburn!!

The thing about the coast here is that you are never sure what the weather is going to be like the next day. Also it is always easier than cooling yourself down than trying to get hot in the cold.

Some days when the mist is really thick and there is a slight wind blowing it can be real cold.

What I would suggest is:

Always sunblock regardless of what the weather is like.

Then starting from cold to hot..........

A good windbreaker ( Drymac ) type of jacket.

A warm jersey to wear underneath that when required.

A long sleeve shirt

A T shirt under the shirt.

If you and the sun dont get along, get yourself one of these ultra thin tracksuits, Made of the same material as these quick dry costumes. ( I think 100% Polyester)

Wear the tracksuit pants the whole day and dont worry about getting it wet, as it does not get heavy with the water and by your next cast it is dry.

A good hat, your choice ( I like one that protects my neck well )

A Big MUST is a pair of Sunglasses.

I use a Farmer John wetsuit when we have to wade out to a sand bank. A wader will work providing the gully you have to cross is not to deep. Thats about the only time I wear a wet suit.

And off course you get those real scorcher of days--Then it is down to shorts and a T- shirt.

As we can always have our vehicle with us I keep a complete set of dry clothes with me.

Only saw this after I posted--Try this Get yourself a bottle of PREP and put it in the fridge untill it is really cold ( do not freeze ). Then apply generously over the sun burnt areas. The colder the better. Twice and in your case maybe a third and you will be ready to get yourself cooked again.

OH yes, before I forget they sell common sense pills at P&P ( LOL)

I buy the cheapies so I dont really have to look after them.
Mr Price,Woolworths,Pep Ackermans. They all stock them. Some of them have that netting stuff in them, if it bothers you cut it out.

Hiya Guys,

If you live in office shoes and socks all day and most weekends then don't forget to protect those feet.

Ive seen guys badly burn the tops of their feet so badly that day two there is no option of putting on shoes or booties.

Hi Brett! Yes true... pair of old tackies should do or maybe booties. Thing about booties is I hate the squishing of water inside. Wanted to drill holes in them but couldn't bring myself to do it...

Hahaha, I was also going to say this.   I always wear shoes or boots when fishing, as I'm always on rocks.   Then during one Namibia expedition I fished a day on the sand, without shoes.........it was worse then our friend above!!!

Stuffed up my trip as I could then not get shoes on my feet either.
