Best bass reel

A friend from Zambia has invited me for a weeks fishing on the Zambesi just below the Vic Falls. All I have to do is get to Livingstone and he'll take care of everything.
I don't know about you but ever since I've been able to read I always wanted to fish in exotic locations and one of them is the Zambesi.
Dreams of giant tiger fish, huge untamed bass and bream always made me wish it would one day happen.
Well it looks like my dream is coming through. My good friend is covering all the costs apart from my flight.
As a gift I want to buy him the top of the range reel which he can use for tigers , bass and bream.

LGF , JohnVC ... I'm sure you guys can assist me here.

I'm sure VC is going to reccomend a Johhny Morris - I'll vouch for them as I own one - smoothest reel ever.

LGF - well the boy is a Quantum PT energy fan - also fantastic reel.

SOunds like a fantastic trip I hope you have a great time -when you goin?

Thanks Ryan ... What about reels in the Shimano stable?


I still have to confirm when I can make it.
He mentioned that July is a good month for Tigers and Aug/Sep is good for bass nd bream.
Before that happen I'm scheduled to go to Mazeppa to do some R&S fishing ...  ONLY 6 WORK days left!:woohoo

Sorry boet shimano bass reels I know little of. But shimano lacks development in the baitcaster area - the other two reels mention I feel have way better technology in this dept.

Great - I Grew up at Vic falls. July still a bit early - Later is better

Ryan you know me to well. Johhny Morris all the way. I have 9 of them now and getting another two in the next couple of weeks. Vern also bought him self one.

They have sorted those problems out and with the new model my signature series I have I have had none of those problems

How do you find yours Ryan?

Now that's why I'm a Quantum Man, they don't even have probs to sort out,  Sorry VC but it's just the way it is Bud, I'll never ever buy any other reel than a Land cruiser I mean a Quantum BTW their top of the range now sells for just over 2g's

The best value for money reel has to be the Shimano Curado at around R1, 600. Top of the range has to be the Shimano Calais DC at around R4, 500 (I have one and it’s awesome… not sure it’s worth 3 Curado’s but it is really nice to have one and I fihs with it most of the time). The Calais 100 at around R2, 300 is a gem.

I sold all my Quantums to a Quantum fanatic... I had two Tour Edtion PT's and an Energy.

I abuse mine with really big powerful fishies........ not Moffie bass::balance:.........I have had no probs with the JM and can highly reccomend it I have pulled 16kg barbel on it too - I think they are really good value for money. I stand to be corrected but so far as I am aware it is the only reel under 2k with 11bearings (sily smooth)........

Sorry, I bow my head in shame for not posting as much    :walk

Aye, me can vouch for them Johnny Morris too.  I have nothing against other reels and still using my Quantum PT500. Just wanted to try out the Johnny Morris Elite, and found it to be much smoother that the Quantum.
What i don't like about my Quantum is the little red line on the edge of the spool which is not evenly printed, so when it's reeled, it looks like the spools' uneven :doh.

I know that if you have to go and buy reels, one is offered soooo many to choose from. I took a chance on on the Johnny Morris, and after fishing with it a few times, turned out to be a really good buy. I think I'll stick with the brand for a long time
