You cannot bend something straight, you can bend something, or straighten it ( From my MX days, I alwayes got nailed for trying to bend my handlebars straight )

OK, if you have a good eye you can do this thing look up the spear, from the back and mark where the kink is and which way it is bent.

We used to use the towball of a vehicle, between the ball and the bolts that secure it as bending jig, but those were field repairs.

If your spear is not straight, the spear will flex under Accelaration, because you are pushing it from the back and any linier deformities will make it flex in that direction.

Before we had rail guns, the spear was supported by the handle and the muzzle, so it would bend in the middle.  You then had to get exactly the right amount of overhang in front of the muzzle to counteract this bending, that is why the old guns used to have this large portion of spear sticking out in front of the muzzle. Too little and the spear would bow downwards. Too much and it would bow upwards. You can do the experiment, hold the spear by the catch side and support it with your finger at the other end. Slide your finger forward and backward while looking at it from the side and you will see the effect.

If your spear was not straight between the muzzle and the handle, the bow would be enhanced by the Acceleration and the shot would be misplaced.

I did not have money, so I made my own rail guns, I still have one, I also made my own muzzles.
