Beginners kit for basic Deep Sea.

Hi All.

I have been fishing Charters now for years. And I've reached a point where i am needing to charter the entire boat just for myself and sometimes a partner. As I'm not interested in the sausage factory charter tactics and prefer to jig, plug, troll etc.
Ive decided to Buy a ski boat. I have put in an offer on a nice boat to start with. But now i need to kit it out with some Gear.
Any recommendations on rods, reels etc. I would be looking for versatile combos for Tuna, wahoo, sailfishes etc. And some spinning combos for sight fishing.
I'm thinking 4 Trolling rods and 2 spinning to start. Or is it wrong?

Some experienced advice would be greatly appreciated.

What size boat? This will determine how many rods you can troll.
How many anglers? This will determine how many rods and how much line you need.
Where will you be fishing? This will determine tackle size.
What is the budget?

The above will enable an accurate response.

But, for the sake of brevity, the following will be a middle of the road option.
4 x TLD25 loaded with 15kg mono matched with 7' 30lb boat sticks will handle most things.
Plus 2 x Saragosa 6000 or Daiwa BG5000 with 50lb braid on 8' casting rods.

I like keeping it basic.
the shimano tld range was good, but they lack too much behind these days in my opinion.

I did fish competitively last year and the year before.
yes it was a waiste to a extent.

most of the guys, still use tld 20-25 for 10kg line class.

I have moved on.
currently is use 3x grinders on the boat.
penn clash 6000 and daiwa bg 5000 all 50lb

then I have a grinder, with stainless steel gears with 80lb braid.

multipliers I use 2x penn 40hsnspools.
loaded with 27kg mono, about 200 meters and 80lb braid for backing.
the reels are fitted onto 15kg rods and a bit heavier.

im past playing around.
I want to feel the real power of fish.
a real tug of war is what excites me.
especially on a light weighing outfit.

to reel in a 30kg tuna on a tld 50 or a 80w is energy waisting.
I will rather pull hard and see if my tackle can stand up to the pressure.
if it fails, just too bad.

I do have 2x tyrinos 30 reels with 27kg mono and 80lb backing on 50lb stand up rods for larger species.
but I hardly use them.

but I would recommend staying with lever drag type reels.
easy to set and keep it that way.
the penn 40 hsnspool reels are a 7:1 ratio which is very quick

I am doing same as you , had enough of charters and same old , same reefs , rusted hooks , poor trolling lures , scabras ... etc
But I started to collect boat tackle long ago . I like good equipment that lasts and don’t give you trouble . I believe in “buy right first time”
TLD 25 are ok but weak reel with not much drag .
TLD 30 is lot better reel - have one of those . Tyronos 30-50II - is also good reel . But if no money object - get Talica 2 speed . Once you have Talica - only then you will realize that all other reels was actual waste of money . Trust me on this one .
Either 50 or 25 . I have 50. They are incredible light reels with amazing drag . Many have Tiagra’s - Talica’s 50 II are miles better reels then Tiagra’s . Rods for trolling - 7ft - with top roller ( forgot names ) got them from kingfisher .
Get a good rod harness - one that drops below waist - rod butt sits just above knees - forgot name of it . It will save your back big time .
Boat damages your knees , back , ankles , hips - think of your health well ahead - before you end up with health problems .
I fish bottom with 5.6 ft Daiwa Hiramasa jigging rod ( incredible strong rod with strong eyes ) coupled with old Stella FA 20K . Used previously Shimano trevala 7ft , good blank - crap soft eyes - not for boat really , now Trevala is rigged with Sabiki for catching live bait . Daiwa & Stella is a very light setup but strong enough for shark - fish hijacking hookups that actually happens often lately . Scabra’s = wrist and back destroyers are not allowed on the boat .
Other spinning rod I use is popping 8 ft Shimano kiabutsu and also have Asassin 8ft Sierra armed with Ultegra 10k and lures in case of kingfish siting .
Latest for bottom was a banax electric reel with daiwa tanakom rod - that was a game changer for deep reefs .
It’s a expensive game you are entering into . Boat , outboards and services , electronics , tackle , club launching fees , MMSI no , VHF course , radio , skippers , Bouyancy , COF , flairs , eye test , just no end to expenses .

All this information is really helpfull.
I have fished with the TLD25's they seemed pretty nice and easy to handle. But if I'm going to spend the money i will have a look into the Talica and Penn.
@Fin-S - Im Looking at a Seacat 510CC to start. There will only be 2 of us. We will mainly Fish natal coastline. North and South. I'm Budgeting around R50k for the initial gear.

@willem wikkel spies - Im struggling to find the Penn hsnspools. Is there another name for them?

@D5 - Thanks for the advice, especially the rod harness, i will try find the lower harness you mentioned.

they are not tooo big!!!
I like fitting my hand over the reel and hold it that way while reeling in line/ fish.
sometimes guiding the line between middel finger ens.

just like on wicked tuna!!!!!
but with much more ease

they are narrow spools. which makes the effort of reeling in line and spooling line correctly lekker.

not such a hassle as with a very wide spool
