Beginners Conundrum

Hi Guys,

Thought we could start a new Thread for some likeminded fellows.

To give you an idea, I turn 30 in July, only caught my first ever Kob last year November in the Breede after a chance encounter on the pier with an Oom Jaap, who helped me bait up, pointed a gnarled finger and said "gooi hom daar", Less than a minute later, a feisty little Kob decided he was willing to play along( Unfortunately for the Kob, he was undersized and I was using the only rod available, being a 13Ft Finnor and Penn 8000, so it was more lasoing than angling)and since then could not stop thinking about that first fish and fishing in General. Before that my fishing constituted visiting Oceans Basket and ordering the Linefish.

So if you are in the same position as me being an average Joe Social Angler with only said amount of time, but you cant stop thinking about cathcing that "Trophy" fish, then post your story here and also what your goals are/were(if you already reached them - Congrats) for 2014 and lets see if we can help each other out or just motivate your fellow angler!

Pics are welcome and experienced hands, any advice is much appreciated;)

Cheers

Good luck man,

also new to salt water fishing, caught a 12kg steenbras when i was a litie with my dad, he just said "you see that opening in the gullie gooi daar jy sal iets vang".I ended up replaing my self-winder okuma to the PEN jigmaster. Thought my dad was super man after that.

My Goals for this winter and 2014.

1. Catch my first Gallie this winter in cape town and suroundings.

2. Want to go big like a bronzie someday in 2014.

3. Want to havea fight with a fish like I did when i was a litie when everything was almost to strong to even pic up my rod or even reel it in.

4. On the biggest mission to catch my first cob.

Good luck on your Goals.::tight:

My goal is quite simply to beat my pb of 53cm gallie, this is becoming an obsession.The big buggers I've hooked always get away, sometimes in front of my eyes...grrr.

How to achieve this.. moving back to J-hooks or my old slap glass fibre rod and NO more braid,just plain maxima line.
