Ahoi Fernando,

Boas Entradas e bom ano 2010.

I love the freeboard of that cat. You need a mate to lean over deep and grab the bills of your BIG catch? I volunteer.

a) Impressive speed out of relatively moderate engines.

b) Asymetric sponsons will create a handful of steering reaction for the helmsman.

Waters are nice this week out of Luanda port. There's a couple of nice currents around petroleiro and 3-5nm South to it. We saw a couple of BIG fish jump, but did'nt manage to raise them. Instead dorados, dorados, dorados. Even my Raoul had a first on his account. Now he wants to come to the Lobito week (13-20 March) with daddy and resolve his first sailfish...

^^..

Bom apetite!

Hi fedu, the bobkat you refer to is known as the Twister 730 here. I have only been on it at a boat show - not on the water. Don't know if miles or HT has ridden on one?

Hi Fin-S,

wright on target, it's the same boat.

Bobkat is the name in England (?)

http://www.bobkatboats.com/

but the design is South African by Bob van Niekerk, It is designed incorporating the typical Bobkat asymmetrical hull shape and patents.

That "thing" in the bottom is the "SKOKBREKER" or wave-breaker, and they write:

"There will be three model variants to the design, a soft top version, hard top version and walkaround console version. It is intended to be powered by two four stroke outboards between 90hp and 200hp engines, giving a top speed of over 55 knots. For optimum performance a set of FAST foils designed by Proffessor Gunter Hoppe of the Institute of Hydrodynamic and Mechanical Engineering at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa, can be fitted.

This boat is designed to be launched and retrieved off the beach and through the surf launching in mind, as with its 9.6m big brother."

I cannot find this 9.6m big brother anywhere.., The foils they talking are the patented Hysucat

My guess is that this boat is designed and built in SA and exported to UK.

And this is suposed to be the SA http://www.boatloft.co.za .

P.S. - I need more info on this line of boats and I can't seem to find it.

I am fishing tomorrow but would like to chat to you as I have a Hysucat (StealthCat) 24' sports cabin hull on foils. PM me your number and I will call you on Thursday if that is OK.

PM sent.

By the way I think this is the Prowler 30 you wrote about on the previous post.

Hey Fedu, I have never fished on a 730, but at the show it was lovely, well finished and it turned a lot of heads I saw Casper walkers boat "Aphrodite" at sea at sodwana and she really looked like she rode well.

Merwe Marine have been building them here, you can try get hold of Andre for some more info.

The asymmetric bobcat (actually Prof Hoppe's design) is aimed at reducing interference between the hulls, where the bow wave off the one hull interacts with the other hull....hence more efficient, as with near vertical inner shape there is basically no inner wave.

This hull shape and the foil concept was researched extensively at the University of Stellenbosch in the 80's and 90's....with 1000's of towing tests.

However Stell marketing of the hydrofoil was a nightmare and fraught with skelm middlemen trying to make a quick buck...pretty much scuppered all the projects.

BTW Prof Hoppe retired some time back.

Hi Rudy,
Any news on the "all new 24'" I have heard rumours about?
BTW, I think Fedu, the OP, has set himself up with an awesome American mono.
