bearing oil

as anyone soaked bearings in ps 23 and then used a synethic oil like castrol edge or mobil 1 in whatever viscosity preferred .ps 23 being a metal treatment adhers to metal surfaces and penetrates metal on a microscopic level leaving a protective layer which is effectice against corrosion, reduces friction and increases the heat characteristics of the metal treated. ps 23 as sabs and csri certification unlike prolong which as settled many law suites against themselves from the federal trade commission for unsubstianted claims made by them. reel x a bearing oil also claims to do the same things as ps 23 but is not available here.i am of the opinion it will do the same thing to the bearings and other metal surfaces in a reel.

your input will be appreciated

ps. 23 sounds like some good stuff.. Why not use it by itself instead of oil ? Depending on the viscosity u want u cld take the seals off the bearings (provided there is a c-clip holding them on) , soak them in petrol 30 min to an hour, spin them clean and then repeat procedure. Soak in p23 and then spin excess off and put seals back on . Sounds like u cld add a drop of low viscosity oil to the p23 if u wanted to thicken the mixture up.  Might make for a speedy, well protected bearing.

Where do u get it and who makes it?   And $$$ ?

Anyone know how to thin silicone oil? would like to use this stuff but it's way to thick. I currently use 50/50 3in1 oil and parafin in reel bearings, works lekker but it leaves a black residue on the bearings which means lots of cleaning.

Hiya deenamoodley,

Have you tired using Prolong oil?

Rinse my bearings in Benzine, heat them and soak in Prolong. When I do a lube service I just add a drop on Nifty Oil (hair clipper oil) to the bearing.

My bearings have lasted years with this treatment?

3 IN 1... good oil been around for ages and also look at sewing machine oil , the local sewing shops stock it for Bernina sewing machines and is super-fine , good to add to thicker oils to thin them down a bit.

I mix PS23 with a LS-EP2 grease till the grease is leka thin for the gears and a few drops of PS23 for the bearings and bushes.Works like a charm for me.Is using it for +-15yrs in all my reels.

Hi Trophy,

Don't you find the viscosity of Prolong a bit thick, would that not restrict the brg?

mix it with a fully synthetic oil like castrol edge o w or 5 w 3 in 1 as a value of about 10 w and is alose available in 20 w it being a mineral oil

I use TG's Rocket fuel, comes in 3 grades (Red, Yellow, and Tournament) as well as a "Liquid Grease" which i find amazing in my spinning reels! pricey but lasts for ages! Magic StuFF!

I've tried all manner of oils in reel bearings and in my opinion the very best is ReelX.
Contact whaler and buy some.

I have always used a mixture of grease and reel oil, have never replaced a bearing on any of my reels,I know that affects casting distance!

The easier it goes in the easier it goes out

Soak bearing in prolong, it works

Like Kraken said, whaler sells reel X, been using it for a few months now, good stuff

I'm using oil that is used on the ceramic bearings of battery operated racing cars, these cars runs at very high revs.
