Battery not being charged by Main motor,

Ryan

Sealiner
On my previous rig the more I opened the throttle the higher the voltage went on the fishfinder.

I started my motor on Tuesday and I failed to notice a rise in the voltage in the battery current.

My Questions?

Does the outboard have an alternator?

Is it easy to replace/fix?

Thanks gents

Hi Ryan.

I am no expert, whilst running the motor check the voltage on the battery termainals with a multimter, voltage should be between 12,9V - 13,8V on mid range RPM. Some boat motors are fitted with a "Charging coil" which is then connected to a rectifier and then through a voltage regulator. You might of found on the previous rig the voltage was not as "pure" thats the reason for the changes experienced. If the voltage is less than 12V, It either could be the battery that i not holding charge or a problem with the charging circuit.Have the battery checked first.

Hi Ryan
1. Swap the battries first an check the gage.
2. Use your Jumper cabels from the 2nd bat. to the 1st and see if the gage lift to 13/+ volt if you run the 2nd moter. Make sure you disconect 1 termanal on that moters bat first. Never disconect or change batt. while moter is running. Good chanse you wil blow your stater then. You can jump however but a batt. must be conected to that moter. Safest is check with multimeter if avalible.
3. Check your fuses.
4. make sure your terminals are clean and secure.
5. Check all wireing for corotion.
