Fed up after spending a whole packet of Pearl Blue Shads, just like that, I am thinking of investing in some cheaper baits namely the Zoom Range. Anyone think the "Bass Smells" will have an effect?

In my opinion the Zoom range is better (Super Flukes) and cheaper. The baby bass colour is really effective in clean water, you also get the mini "baby" ones if there are smaller fish around. Berkley's sandworms however are in a class of there own, and are also pretty durable so they should last a little longer. Another reason for me prefering the zoom range... besides price is the action on the water seems better. Keep your old packets of Berkley minnows and put your zoom flukes in them if you are worried about smell (i am not convinced it makes a major difference, a lot of bites are reaction bites) Give the baby bass colour and salty colour a go, and make you own call from there.

I concur with Deceiver, the scents doesn't work on Bass as is the case perhaps say with Carp. The only real application for them Bass scents are for the reaction bites to turn into feeding bites by virtue of the Bass holding onto the lure just that little longer for you to make your reactive strike and set the hook.
Saturday that passed I had a perfect opportunity to witness this take and quick let go once the bass realised that it wasn't anything edible, a matter of split seconds, I kid you not. They would strike the lure and before I could set the hook (sight fishing) the lure would just be spat out and so quick that by the time I striked the lure was free from their mouths only to come flying out of the water at one serious (Us Ducking for cover all over the boat) speed.
So, in short, these scents will only help in making the bass take longer to decide wether or not what it's got in it's mouth is edible or not giving your that little longer to make your hook set.
On the Zoom issue, well, they are the biggest (ito of variety available in SA) and their actions just seem to be better than that of the more expensive makes. Just one thing though, I've read somewhere that during winter, lures like Fat albert grubs, Tab Tails, Dead ringers (all Zoom products) are the ones to use.
So go on give them a bash and see what happens, don't worry too much about the scents (really not that important, in my humble opinion).
