I haven’t posted too much on the site but I normally drop-in once every few days a read a few posts but never really post much.

With the ESA comp on the Vaal last weekend we have spent a lot of time pre-fishing there and trying to get some pattern going. We studied maps, google earth spoke to locals the whole thing.

The Vaal is very difficult to fish mainly due to the enormous amount of structure in there. There are millions of trees around and they could all hold fish.

At the end the prefishing seemed to have been worth while and local knowledge was by far the most valuable of the lot.

The Culprit guys in the tourney came first with an 8kg bag over only 4 fish. Seems that the fish in there are fairly big on average if you can manage to find them.

They where fishing in very shallow water with black or June bug plastics. Try and use plastics with lots of vibration like the tassel tail lizards.

The wind will always be a huge factor on a big venue like the Vaal dam but personally I like fishing the windy banks and most of the fish caught in the dam was in fairly windy banks

(Obviously at some point the wind just gets a bit ridiculous with waves crashing into the boat and stuff) Luckily with all the bays there will always be a quiet area somewhere especially around the Island.

Sorry for ranting over my own stuff but what is the use of having pro teams out there if you can’t boast with their performance.

These guys (Grant & Jaco) had fantastic on a day but in general there wasn’t a lot of fish weighed in during the tournament.
