I would highly reccomend you join a club.

Reason being.

You will learn 10 fold what you know now in a very short period of time.

Guys/members will help with the in's and out's of how to fish certain baits etc.

Gives you damn fine excuse to get on the water on a more regular basis.

You can measure your success with the weighin points etc.

Helps you network with people in the know:wfish

There are two clubs I know of in the PTA area. One is Pretoria Bassmasters and then there is Centurion bassmasters. But the problem is you need to own a boat to join these clubs and as Ryan said politics us a major issue. So the chances of getting a ride with one of the club members for each club comp will be a tedious task

There is two clubs in Pretoria area, Centurion Bass Masters and Pretoria Bass Masters. These to clubs is very different in culture, Centurion is probably one of the strongest Clubs in SA and majority of competetive anglers Pretoria on the other hand is majority Social anglers. Both clubs is very well organised and good clubs. I have been a long standing member of Centurion and I enjoy the club. I know the Pretoria guy's well and always enjoy fishing with them. I think if you compare these to clubs to any other clubs in the country they will probably both rate in the top 10 in the country from fishing talent as well as organization point of view.

My advice would be to join a club and stay a normal member for a year before you decide to what level you want to take your fishing, it get's expensive!

If i had to decide on one i would say go for centurion

Yes you do learn a lot by joining a club and with the amount of knowledge in centurion you can’t go wrong. But again you need your own boat. I fished the 2007/2008 season with somebody and ended up missing some fish offs that could have changed the outcome of the final result.

Do you have the num of the artlure clubs in Centurion for me please?

There are 3 clubs in Pretoria.

Salmo

Classics

Pretoria Spinfishers

Each have their own strength's and weaknesses. Of the 3 I would go for either Salmo or Spinfishers - Classics seems to be very family orientated - and not so competative.

Salmo are highly competative and good anglers and are perfectionists down to a tee.

Spinfishers is small has some excellent anglers and are more socialy competative - meetings are sweet short and to the point then it is braai time - Naturally I am biased to Spinfishers but you are welcome to join us for an event or a meeting and meet some of the guys.

Drop me a pm if you want numbers

Sorry I forgot to add Most of them meet north of Centurian.
We have quite a few anglers from Centurian

Sparnar like i mentioned next to the fire on monday evening...lol
I will also recommend it...i have learned so much in such little time(like Ryan said)
Im lucky to have a boat partner like schalk, he is a flippen good teacher and friend.
You will learn allot but this will also make a bit of a dent in your wallet...lol...the reason saying this is, i saw, how crucial it is to have the right tackle and equipment...but like i also said and like oom hennie said there...you get your social clubs and your competitive clubs, this all is in your hands...do you want to social or do you want to be competitive...personnaly i think you will learn allot more in a competitive club...but thats my 2c.
