Baronet 17 Cabin Boats

Hi All,

Ok it seems that I might have found the so called perfect river boat for us?

Baronet 17. I know that they have been around for sometime and they seem to have a good name.

Flamingo and Baronet seems very popular. Flamingo built locally by El Shaddai and have a very big reputation.

Baronet? Imported? Built locally? Anyting to be concerned about.

Both are local and unfortunately both not in production anymore, only cabin boat in production is the super skipper built by custom marine in PE and a cathedral hull is not for every one.

It's unfortunate that you cant buy a locally produced cabin boat besides what is mentioned.

Interesting.

Not so long ago I requested a quote from El Shaddai for the Flamingo 170 and it is still being advertised on their website.

Sad that Cabin boats seems to be not so popular.

Well any experiences with the Baronet? Apparently built by Viking which also has good reputation for building quality boats?

No Experience my side, all depends what you want to use it for.

I have an Interceptor and they are wonderful for estuaries.

The interceptor is it imported? How does it handle rough water on estuaries?

My aim for the boat is also fishing in mainly estuaries.

Do you get wet badly at the helm?

Locally produced boat but also out of production.

I sat in a very bad storm on an estuary one Easter weekend in Gamtoos and I got a new respect for the boat as to how well in handled the conditions.

I have never gotten wet on this boat but if you hit swells or wake and or wind, it most definitely though a spray up.

my parents have have one of these for years... i have taken it out in very rough conditions in the knysna lagoon, Even into the heads where there are swells(Never out the heads its not designed for that).

It handles well, just a very heavy boat but strong.

Thanks for all the advice and experience sharing.

The boat in question was advertised as an 17ft and upon viewing saw that it was a 15ft.

And did it look bad. Not like the photos.

Back to square one trying to find a Cabin Boat.....
