I NEED SOME HELP, IVE CAUGHT SOME BARBLE THERE ON REDBAIT,

CAN SOMEBODY GIVE ME THE TIME OF DAY, TIME OF YEAR, TRACES ETC TO FISH THERE, AND OFCOARSE , THE RIGHT BAIT...

Hey Stinkmossel.

I don't know that river too well but if I had to put money down, my bait preference would be either chicken liver or a small dead bird. I would fish in the evenings which is great because you will miss the 5pm traffic and anytime between September and May would the the best in my opinion.

hey stinkmossel, you should try chicken livers, they work well. i've also had some success with crankbaits...

be warned, there are some real monsters in that river and with so many underwater snags you don't want to use light tackle! as for the time of day, early mornings and late afternoons seem best, i wouldn't hang around there after dark though, there are some dodgy characters around sometimes...

But Pappi tell me, i bought the livers about 3 to 4 days and left them in the sun and believe you me, when i tell you the smell was not great. when i got to this dam in Kroonstad, i gooied a rod in and left it there for about 3 to 4 hours. then at about 02h00 the morning i tried gooing in again until the morning but i didnt even get a bait. i was fishing from the bank, but i went pretty deep and casted a good distance. is it the dam, or is it me, or was it just a bad luck? In the past i have caught and have seen nice size barbel. Dont know if the weather could have contributed to this but it was windy for a while, then it rained for some time, but then after that the wind got down

Sebastian, try putting your bait in the shallow waters, very often the barbel are snooping around in the shallows looking for food, and try fresh livers... I have also smelt those things vrot, i wouldnt touch a vrot liver with a barge pole.

lol. eishhh. tell me about it J.that smell was horrible. i am going to try out Florida lake soon and then i want to try the vaal. still depressed though. lol

sorry for the late reply sebastian, i've been away from civilization for a couple of days! about the chicken livers...man, i can't believe you actually touched that stuff after so much time in the sun! i certainly wouldn't!

no, use fresh livers man, you can also use ox liver cut into strips about 10- 15cm long by 3 -5cm wide. i've also seen some papgooiers catch smaller catfish on bread.

Eishh Papi, i wear gloves. I was told once that they need to have that smell. This weekend i was preparing my lines and im hoping to go get the license for Florida lake sometime in this week and then maybe saturday i will go try my luck.
