How long should I make the "hair" when I tie a fish head on? Or do I just tie it against the bend of the hook?

Anything from 1.5 to 2 inches, is how long the thread running from the fish to the bend of the hook should be..

Looking Mark's rig , hair should be around same length as hook. I think the whole idea is that hook is not tied against the head but to be loose.
I would assume that you will tie few hooks as spare. Once head comes off or braid perishes from barble teeth - you just replace it with new hook already tied.
This looks like much better way as chances of not hooking are very small .
I was thinking would it be easier to make a loop at the hair and when hair is pushed through fish head - you just put a snap clip to play as a stopper , but then hook can accidentally go through the snap clip and then this circle hook may not do a good job of hooking the barble .

I just wait until you see the fish is moving off with your delectable morsel you have put on offer for him, and then pick the rod up and just reel in until you feel that he is hooked..
As far as reels go. I don't think it makes a difference what reel you use at all, as fundamentally they all the same..

If you look at my pic of the barbel that I caught you can see the shank of the hook, then the braid and then the carp head..
All that happens once you hook the fish, is that he spits out the carp head and that pulls the braid down the shank of the hook to the eye, so everything is out of his mouth..
Also the area where you insert the braid threw the fishes nostril is very boney so wont easily pull out or braeak up..
Plus if you take into account 45lbs braid times four..
