So a competion is coming up my regular bait is salted & drained chicken livers with a piece of added fresh liver on circle hooks. No weights. Secondly use split Carp heads and see which baits are taken first. I chumm with mashed carp body boilies mixed with worm soil (vermicast)& fish pellets with red food dye.

Given that Crabs & Platties/splatties/chicken also work for most anglers, what are your top two best baits for Barbel say 4-6kgs. I find some days Carp heads are good then the next day livers are working better.

For small fish like 4-6kg baby chickens are the best for me.Works in all waters and gets a good strong bite. Secondly i would use carp fillets.

thanks nobbles havent tried fillet for barbel - you use 1'' x 4'' strip as similar for Tiger. On Day olds do freeze them to keep, I see some folk skin em seems time consuming, but worth it i suppose if necessary.

Always skin them, gets you a quicker bite. Mine are always frozen also when frozen extremly easy to skin will take you 40 seconds once you got the hang of it. Fillet works great and with the bollies you are doing both baits will produce a consitant bite rate through out.
