Barbel Attractant?

Hi guys,

Do you usually just add some kind of attractant to a mieliebom when catching barbel or is it simply, adding a day old chicken (or any bait) and waiting for a bite?

I am looking for a good way to attract barbel to your feed? blood maybe?

Any tips would be helpful!

for me personally i like to use a small fish head for bait and dont really use alot of bomb but like to use a bit of red fluoro and ox blood from time to time

Dip your bait with Scott's Emulsion Cod Liver Oil (Regular type get it at clicks) and some ox blood powder, you will not be disappointed.

I second the cod liver oil.
I read somewhere on sealine that epol anchovy flavour works as well. Haven't tried it yet.

There are far less disgusting, more effective and more fun ways to catch barbel you know... look into the popping technique.

1. Pure Chicken blood is difficult as its usually washed away with water at the abbatoirs. Try a chicken abbatoir though and see. You can also ask a butcher for Ox and Chicken Liver and Liver Blood.

2. A great method is to Blend Ox and or Chicken Livers with or without pilchards/Sardines and make a nice DISGUSTING Barbel Soup. Put into a Coke Bottle and when at the dam get in a boat and squeeze the whole bottle over your area. A small breeze works GREAT to make it travel further. This is a Gross but very effective method. Especially if you want to pull them into a bay to start calling, popping or fly fishing for them.

What i usually do is i buy or preferably make some Plain Boilies and Put them in a Ziplock bag and soak them properly with Supercast or Conoflex Barber Dip. Making them is a pain in the arse but its really cheap.

When i Get to the dam i throw a Rod with a Bass or Carp head (Crushed flat and soaked in Barber Dip) or a whole hand size kurper (Stomach Cut open before Freezing) which has been Soaking in Barber. The other rod i throw my Boilies on a hair rig or i might Throw out with hooks FULL of Worms dipped in Barber dip. I take a whole lot of the soaked Boilies and Shoot them all over my area with a Kettie.

This should pull the Barbel in and you just up your Bait size to get the bigger guys

Best attraction in my opinion is movement. This can depend on the barbel on the day. Sometimes they like dead baits sometimes live baits. But a fresh fish head hald scaled and definned and swua3shed a bit does well but i find if the bite is slow a livey does the job

Hi Guys
Interesting thread. Has anyone tried the twin series snorsous dip with their baits. I see its being used when popping for cats.

I personally use maximus from barend breedt legend series with a fish head and had great succes with it mostly vall dam and vaal river[align=center][/align]

How do you use your dip? do you soak it overnight or simply apply it before casting?
