Seems that Marno has been bitten by the bug.........

Barbel have hooked him hook, line, sinker boat and fishfinder............LOL

Really cool to see a newbie with such an addiction to lure fishing for barbel.

Thanks Ryan, I must admit! I was a very very keen fly fisherman till I caught my barbel on lure, and stalking the fish is the best part.

Thanks Kanarie, I am sure I will go to the dam with Ryan.

OK, now I need to get my stuff sorted.   

 

What do I need?

 

Boat – That I have.  Should be fixed soon.

Fly rod + Flies – Have 3 rods in different strengths, so that’s fine.  Have lots of flies + fly tying stuff.

This is perfect although artlure guys donot use a fly rod a whole herd we often use a smaller rod for catching the smalls like Dwarf tigers, ghelies etc. You will however have to purchase a small reel and load it with 2lb line for this purpose will show you what I use - reels are cheap R25 -R100

Normal rods – Have about 3 with koffie meul reels.

Perfect begininning - as the season progresses you will find what works and what does not work for you and will change your equipment accordingly. I currently carry a selection of 8 rods on the boat for different applications.

Bait Caster Rod & Reel – I have the one you gave me + I think I will get a reel for my birthday, otherwise I will buy one.

Yah Birthday boy - Monday the big day eh. This is going to be the first baitcasting outfit of many....................LOL

Klopstok + reel – Need to get the rod.  Big reel is not a problem, can get nice ones from father-in-law.

I will talk Nicely to Kanarie - I think Salmo might have a rod or two in Stock  - Kanarie kan jy check met Bernard vir ons ASB?

Lures – Need to get some.  Will build it up as time goes on.

This takes years best way to start is to buy 2 a month - but the right ones - I think Between Kanarie and myself we should be able to guide you in the right direction - for this comming season you can use my Kit and decide where you want to go from there.

Landing nets – Need to get a big one, have small ones for carp etc.

For now I would strongly reccomend the purchace of a lip gripper - as this will suffice in landing barbel - usually during comps etc other boats are more than willing to loan a landing net when you got a buss on the other end

Braid – Need to get braid to put on my reels.

I would suggest that you start of intially with mono - move to braid when your confidence is up as it is an expensive investment and it might not suit your fishing style - I will assist you getting the right goods

More,more.

Ons het niks nou in stock nie,ons gan bestellings vat by die stywe lyne expo.Dit vat so 6-8 weke.

Ek het self so n roep stok dit is n bietjie duur teen R1200,maar glo my hy is elke cent werd.Dis n investment wat ek hoog sal aanbeveel.
