Other than cob being caught everywhere...the next most discussed topics have become about the safety of fisherman along the false bay coast......we shouldnt even be discussing matters like this....it has been allowed to go on for too long now..years and years and years now. how many robberies or attacks and how many captures??? No contest....we all have things we love in life....Family...fishing gear and fishing. Why should one not be allowed to enjoy it in a city that we live and pay taxes for. I really hope something gets done or an example gets made soon.

Seeing as there was another attack at blue waters, something now has to be done about patrolling these areas. Although, Metro were at the scene shortly after the attack, it should never have happened. These beaches and carparks, be it for everyone who uses the beach MUST be claimed back by the people(mostly fisherman). I really suggest that a argument to the metro police be handed forward for more permanent presence at the main car parks. Its absolutely ridiculous that we must fear while we are fishing. I know the topic has been discussed before but now enough is enough!

can we not get some ideas going....we have had guns and bombs an and and..but we need to get action soon before one of our sealine friends RIP! Im almost at the point of hiring a bodygaurd and car watch each time i go fishing...wonder what it would cost???

Hi Grootvis

We are currently trying address this issue as well as a few other issues with the City. We have sent the Mayor an email requesting an audience and so far received acknowledgement from her office and we awaiting further correspondence from them.

Once we have more detail on proceedings i will post it here on Sealine for everyone to see. A few of the issues we have are, safety of fishermen and their vehicles in false bay, the lack of any facilities in false bay and also providing accessability to fishing spots that already have "parking" space such as Broken rd, Arendse rd, etc.

These are just a few of the issues we are busy with and will provide feedback once we get a plan of action from the municipality.

Make no mistake, we are not the only sporting code that is taking strain. The rock climbers and hikers are suffereing a similar fate, in areas which used to be places of solitude and safety are now no go areas. Look at Table mountain and the Magaliesberg in Gauteng. The Mountain club of South Africa has spent more money and time addressing saftey matters in the last year,  than in their entire existence. I think the same can be said for mountain biking and trail running codes.

We have discussed this at length within these organisations and the reality is that if you are alone, you are a target, and the problems lie very deep within the socio-economic stricture of South African society. Too deep for the sporting codes alone to tackle.
