Aston Lake-Springs

Hi guys, I visited Aston Lake yesterday for the first time. I could only get one carp of about 1 kg on Bunspice float and dough at 80 m with a drop of Rooi GP and Looti on the ball.. I heard a lot of good about Aston Lake and that there is nice size fish. Any help will be appreciated for my next trip.

I've heard of a few reports for this weekends fishing and it was mostly very difficult all over.

Give Aston Lake a go again and things might be different altogether.

I have found that anything with bunspice in works the best for me at Aston Lake and depending on the weather I will use clean bloekom on a sweet white dough with Perdeby on the ball.

I have seen the occasional 6kg and once a 12kg fish but mostly the fish are in the 1-2kg range.

I have found the lake a bit over crowded on weekends so will try again in the winter.

Hi , thx a mill. I will def give it a go. Sounds like it is quite a difficult dam to fish sometimes. I like the rules they have there, eg only 2 rods, no boats, only 4fish allowed to be taken out. Appreciate your help.

Hi There James,

What side of the dam did you sit? Aston Lake is a challenging dam to say the least.

I prefer the left side more.

Dips I have used with success are
Perdeby
Rooi GP
BMT
Banjo
Stats
Vaaldam
Tjop Tjop

Hi PI,

I sat about 150m left of the entrance. Only afterwards somebody told me about the depth.

Where would you suggest one must sit in summer, and in winter....?

What ground feed are you using and why ?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

I have tried the right hand side of the bank probably 20 - 25 times over a two year period and stuggled at best.
Once I tried the left side of the bank I had an immediate pick up in fish, size and amount.
I use normal heavy feed like, supercast or now Magic Baits.
My traces rarely go heavier than a M0 as the bottom is fairly muddy. My hooklinks vary between 13 and 14cm.

For some reason I have more success on the right hand side. I also fish with m0 and hooklinks about 15cm. I know the carps there likes erties also.

Also PI helped me alot because I also struggled ALOT at Aston Lake. I blanked more often than caught something.

I am not a barble fan but sometimes I try for the big mr snor and caught most of them on chicken hearts, chicken liver havent caught me any barble.
