Artificial Lures for Kosi

Hi,I like to target them with top water lures,one of the best is the rapala skitter walk ,the rapala skitter pop also works well.I usely fish lake three casting towards the reeds.Changing the retrieve all the time to see what works on the specific day.Sometimes they like it fast ,other times stop go retrieve.Just make sure your tackle is up to it because there are some really big fish and if you can not stop them from taking you into the reeds the fish will be lost.There are to other members who also fishes there a lot maybe they can give you some more info. caught a lot on soft plastics.. If you fishing up against the reeds likezach says, rig a 7inch weightless and preferrably weedless. Throw it right into the reeds and twitch it out splashing just on the surface pausing every now and then to let it sink..Another really really good plastic for this is a Slug-go bass lure.. works like a bom but you gotta put a serious bass hook in it and fish with a minimum of 20lb braid cause they hit like a steam train and if you don't drop the rod in fright when they blow up out of nowhere then you gott pull like hell!!
Also caught a lot on plastics fishing with a jig head..
No lure can compete with a live pouter tho!!
Just a request, please release the ones you catch.. they are very residential and my boet and I have places in the lake where we go catch the same fish time after time.
as a matter of interest, this looks like a very good year for the rock salmon.. was there three weeks ago, and already we got wuite a few which is really early for them.. tight lines

If you can get your hands on suspending jerk baits like Bomber Long A, Storm thunder stick ect...fish it fast with 1 -2 second pauses.
A couple of mates are doing the bass boat chalenge 1-6 December at Kosi. I will report back..
...have to agree with Rob, don't keep more than you can finish fresh in one meal, they are damn good eating!!

Just a bit of advice...when I fish with braid, I tie it straight onto the lure, and fish with a slightly loose drag. Rather use your thumb on the spool to slow it down. I also dont upgrade treble hooks. It is better to loose the fish with bent open hooks than loosing the fish and the lure. If the fish does go into the reeds, first try to turn it, if all else fails rather give it line and following with your trawling motor (if you have one) You may be lucky and at least get the lure back!!. If you always try to stop it, you are going to end up with a shot drag system and you may loose more fish and lures than you actulally catch. Good luck, and report back on how the fishing went..
