We were planning this outing for the kids for quite some time now. We were supposed to leave at 4:30, Saturday morning but everybody was so excited and packed that we left Friday evening at 23h00 ! We arrived in Arnie at about 2:45am, rigged up and started fishing from 4:30. We started at Romans Beach with prawn and worm in our arsenal, first cast for me and I feel bump bump and a bit of a run, I thought it was a bellman or steenie but it was a sandshark ! I land three in quick succession, the biggest one being 91cm. I decide to try drop shot and I land a small Zebra of 28cm. Haroun's son, Aadam laying with small pieces of bloodworm gets a pull and his line, he brings in the "rock" and to his and everyone's surprise, it's a Bellman of 44cm, which he doesn't hesitate to release ! It wasn't long when Haroun's reel starts screaming and the line peels off the reel in meters !! Everybody thinks that it's a huge Steenie but as it came into the shallows we see its a shark. A huge smoothy, PCL of 116cm ! What a fight ! After sunrise and high tide things quickly started to settle down and the fish went off the bite. We decided to "rest" and fish the high tide at the "Otter", locals told us about the 37Kg which came out earlier in the week, but the conditions were much better during the week. Off to the Otter with a quick stop at Preekstool where I manage another small Zebra of 32cm on wonderworm. Aadam once again draws first blood with a decent kolstert of 30cm, the rest of us blank badly, I fished the whole night at the Otter until sunrise Sunday morning with not as much as a barbel coming to pay me a visit ! LOL ! I blanked badly at the Otter but next time I'll have my turn ! LOL ! The rock formation at Romans reminds me a lot of my "local" fishing spot in False Bay, maybe it was a sign for me to fish False Bay ! Can't wait to hit the local waters again !
