Some 48 years ago I stood at Three Anchor bay watching my brother and a friend returning from Robben with a couple of snoek on board in a ten foot dingy and one of those Seaguls. I remember the swell being somewhat on the large side to top all else. At my young age I thought they were nuts. Now grown up and more experienced, I now realize that they were so stupid the mothers should have pushed them back at child birth. They must have spent six hours travelling only. Anyhow they miraculously survived.

Anyone know how to stop a seagull? the one i ws given starts and runs like a champ, but only way i could stop it was to switch off the fuel. surely there must be a stop/kill switch of sorts, i just couldnt find it and disconecting the spark plug just wasnt going to be done. been shocked once too often.

While the motor is still running in gear, tilt it and gab the prop very quickly. DONT LET GO.:fbash

Only thing I can think of other than closing the fuel line is to install an earthed kill button into the magnito power line thereby leading the current to earth. You keep the button down until the motor stops. When all else fails, mount the motor on your mantel piece and buy a new one to do the work.

Yep Whereto is right. An earthed kill switch on the magneto is the only way. I had an old Manx norton 500cc racebike, no wiring other than a plug lead from the magneto. The only way to kill it was to stall it in 5th gear.

I will have to make a kill switch then.
Its not my main river motor, but it is going onto a 1960's aluminuim tinny I am fixing up. absolutely beutiful old boat and a new yamaha 2.5 will look out of place on her. the seagull fits in with the theme nicely. All I need now is the tweed jacket, pommie hat and a pipe and I will look cool, not.
Will be a nice little booze cruise boat for the transkei.
thanks for the advise guys.
