Anyone out there who has converted or made up their own live bait well either for bass fishing or just to keep a couple of mullet alive.

I have a 17 foot cabin bay boat and am using a 40 litre drum with bilge pump which sucks fresh water either in or out of the drum and when the outlet pipe is raised out of the water it acts as an aerator.

Very simple but a bit of PT when the fish are running.

Any advice or websites appreciated

Thanks there SAFish

Very similar to the ideas I had in mindespecially the bilge pump that has been modified to pump air as well as water

I have found a 50 litre rectangular box with lid at our local  plastic shop and am working on it at the moment...will send you a finished product photo if you are interested

Thanx again

Yes Fishfun, that would be great. I want to build one myself. I think I must wait until you finished yours and copy it. If you don't mind?

check at your local pet shop for pumps, there is some very durable stuff on the market nowdays.Something to move the water in the tank/well is always important.

I have since bought a bilge pump from our local Yamaha agent which runs off 12volt power and works like a bomb.....not too much power but not too little....will be using it in the bay boat and also in the back of my vehicle with a couple of good size mullet....talk to ya soon with photos

built a live bait box a few years ago and still going strong.
here`s how
1. storage box from hardware with handels that keep the lid on while driving.
2.12v bulge pump and 20mm pvc pipe 2 elbows.
3.drill a 6mm hole at top side of box put the bulge pump in the corner of box with pvc pipe connected going up to elbow that faces the longest side of box.
4. take another piece of pvc pipe the lenth of box,,,, drill 6mm holes along the lenth of pipe and block 1 end with marine silicon.now all pipes to be joined with pvc weld. you now have an L pipe with pump at bottom glue with marine silicone ,and pull the wire throgh the small hole at top.
5. get a piece og perspics/plastic that fits below the lid and cut a hole in the center large enough to get a shad/mullet in. fiber glass this to the top. you should have a sealed box now with a hole in the center top.
6. this stops the splashing while driving, and when you clip the main lid on the container does not leak or splas water out at all.
7. plug into cig lighter or batt

if you need more info contact me.
