Hi guys

Currently working overseas and will be home(PE) in Oct. Looking for someone to dive with, share advise and experience and just a spearo buddy in general.

I am new to the sport and only done 3 dives at the Heads in Knysna. Got all the gear but needs assistance and advise on spots in PE. Preferably easier spots to get me started. Very keen to learn and follow instructions.

Any help will be greatly appreciated guys!!

Cheers

Hi

When in PE give me a shout - I dive with quite a variety of spearo's and can show you a few spots for shoredives.

In the interim get the gear ready.  I would recommend following Gletwyn's blog (mentioned earlier) and maybe his course.  Many people spend years trying to figure things out, Gletwyn is able to fasttrack many aspects.

Cheers

I can vouch for gletwyns mentorship. Best source of information to get into and advance in freedive spearfishing. You must be commited and not expect a how to do it guide. Its more along the line of showing you the basics and teaching you a skill and giving you the tools to adapt, improve and advance further! Im also from pe so if a buddy needed give a shout There seem to be lots of pe divers though we seem to be quite "scattered".

Hi guys, I'm also from PE. :imnew:

Started spearfishing earlier in the year. I dive with 2 buddies but we're all still new at this. Been diving at the slipway (6 pillars) mostly, but are there any other good beginner spots? Any help would be appreciated. We're still a bit scared of the deep water and the sharks :ssswim:

If you are still finding your feet in the sport then stick to the bay, there is plenty to do from the slipway all the way down to Cape Recife. There are spots on the westside (wildside) where you can get in and get fish. Suppose it depends on your objectives and goals.

The slipway is nice, but I'm looking for a little variety instead of always diving at the same spot. I bought Gletwyn's book when I started, but most of the shore dives are in the wildside where he says it can be a bit "sharky". That's why I stuck to the slipway. All 3 of us are new at spearfishing and unfortunately we don't know any experienced guys, so that's why I've come here for advice.

In your opinion, we should stick with the slipway until we're more experienced?

Hi
There are so many options in the bay - reefs in front of Shark Rock pier, Devils Reef, Shark Rock, Pollock Rock, Cape Recife - sharks - none that I have seen. You need to explore on your own. If you read Gletwyn's comments about the wildside and the spots he does mention sharks - but not all spots - Black Rock would be a definite no-no. Other than that most spots are available. I do not believe that sharks should put you off nor deeper water. If you want variety you need to explore. I have dived a certain spot on the wildside so many times that I can virtually tell you where the cracks in the reef are, many people don't dive there as they worry about the swell and the waves breaking. Do something enough, understand the conditions and enjoy.

I found a lot spots and the entries/exit points when I started by being at the sea and going out with more experienced spearos.

I dive with specific goals - enjoyment, safety and getting fish. Exploring has always been a huge part of my diving and to simply jump in at the same spot and expect a variety or specific species is not going to happen unless you look around at other places. Not that the slipway is a bad spot to learn.

I'm not that familiar with all the spots, but I quite enjoy diving at the slipway. Is there a website with pics that'll show me where exactly the reefs in front of Shark Rock pier, Devils Reef, Shark Rock are?
