Thanks guys, have been using my kayak mostly on estuaries thus far, more for excercise and once for fishing. Caught a small tiger at Karridene - when I say small - miniscule ..lol
Will be trying for some winter bass at Inanda on Sunday from the kayak. A mate of mine was there last weekend and caught 4 x +/- 900g bass and the weekend before that probably a 1,2kg or so from the side - so hope to get the bigger ones with the kayak.
Both kayaks are now nicely rigged for fishing, with rod holders, tie down points etc.
Will be taking the Synergy into the sea shortly as well, been waveski'ng but not fishing yet.
As for the drift sock, I normally use modified pool toy anchor - pvc bag with an added half a brick or a 1kg fold up anchor. Got some nice tips from the seakayak angling spot here, on how to rig the anchor, so it does not pull my tailend into the swell, like the last time at Richards Bay harbour - that was a bit scary - anchor got stuck, tide coming in and just keep dragging the rear end under the water ..sjoe
As for waders, havent considered that, but can now imagine how dangerous that is, most important kit - PFD/lifejacket - waited to get mine before venturing into a large dam or the ocean again.
Saw the importance of it at Richards Bay - kids capsized their canoe and it started to sink ..about 15 meters from the shore, if it wasn't for their PFD's they would have never got the canoe to the side - as it is they barely made it - swimming alone is fine - they are good swimmers, but trying to rescue boat, oars, tackle etc while keeping yourselve up ..no ways.
