That is lekka indeed.. Gives one a sense of accomplishment.

Question though - why remove the tag? That then stops the future data trail if recaptured..

I got the following info back the other day..

Hi Craig

Thank you for reporting tag number A125379 which you found on the Brighton pier.

The tag had been inserted into a 520mm leervis caught by Gordon Pope on 24th September 2006 when fishing in the Coega Harbour.

Unfortunately the person who recaptured the fish again failed to report the details to us

We appreciate your effort in reporting the tag number to us

Kind regards
Elinor

This guy had been off the hook for some time it would seem, tagged in 2006 and I found the tag not so long ago..

Just a pity when it ends like that..

Keep up the great efforts guys - hoping to obtain my new kit soon and re-join the ranks..

Maybe the Tagging experts could give us more detail of what should be done if a tagged fish has been caugth.

Take the tag number and send it to ORI or pull out the tag and replace it with a new one.

TAG experts let us know so we know what to do next time we are fishing.

Would think you simply record the tag details and all the necessary info and forward that to ORI..

Is how we use to do it.

Hiya Tuna,

Great stuff...your 3rd or 4th now?

In a different thread folks have been talking about how long a shark can be handled before release.

I remember so well the post Thea made with here beaut Raggie. The pic was taken 'away' from the water on some rocks...

YOu guys got such stick from everyone telling you that you caused damage and prob killed the raggie...

I love the fact the the lady was caught some months later and a few hundred KM from where you two landed her!

Just goes to show!

Hi Guys

The normal yellow tags must not be removed rather take the info down and give it ORI....but if you catcha fish with the red tag then you have to kill the fish / shark and cut a chunk of meat and immediatley put in the freezer. make sure you cut close to petoral fin in cluding the centre bone coz that the main part ORI needs for reserch. they use the bone marrow to see how old they are coz they have been injected with Tertracycaline....

If not sure call Robert Kyle on 0824532778.

ja it is my third tag in 113 sharks , wish i will get more info or recaptures
If you catch a fish or a shark with a tag, simply take the number, tale the measurements and release the fish
please leave the tag in
if you see a tag thats has a bad or septic wound , please remove tag so the wound can heal, infection might just kill the fish or cause it not tho hunt to it's full potenial

For those of you that were asking about times, my camera, tape and tags are just about always ready and i try and not make the whole thing not longer than 5 min
i have never taken time but this summer i will see whats my average
