So I launched my ski on Saturday for the first time at Eastmoore and had some bad luck while watching the water too close to the water. My ski bumped into another ski and now there is a nice bruise just under the bead and a section of the bead is split. I checked while on the beach and didn't notice the extent of the damage so I went for it, my rudder cables feel quite stiff and I think it was jammed so as I pushed the ski into the water it made a right turn. So here I am trying to get onto this thing and the shore dump is making me nervous and I was desperately trying to get on as quick as possible. Then suddenly the water went from shin deep to chest deep almost instantly so I jumped. By the time I got on I was sideways... A rather large foamy flipped the ski, the ski went up and I fell straight onto the sand. All I could think of was where is the ski and as I turned to look it hit me, right on the cheek bone and then came the rudder and hit me on the bicep. I was vloekking and laughing at myself at the same time while coughing up sea water and sand. Out of breath I pulled my ski higher up on the beach and just sat there thinking. Not sure what I was thinking because I just jumped up and made a second attempt which was a breeze. No idea why I went for it at that moment, it was just an impulse and I got out and paddled straight to the barge.
I couldn't get a hook in the water because each time I put my paddle down and look at the hatch then

, so I ended up just paddling around for about two hours with two rods in the holders but no line in the water just trying to look the part I think.
I got gatvol of just paddling around watching the other guys have a jol so I decided to head back because I was starting to feel the seasick getting a bit worse. By the time I got close to the shore the water became so rough that my butt wanted to swallow the ski. I felt so queasy at this point that I just wanted to get out! No time for timing the waves or looking for a quiet spot to beach I just paddled like mad and hoped for the best. As I got close enough I just hopped off and and walked out without getting my hair wet. I waited by my car for a buddy and watched some of the other guys come in and most of them were not as lucky as I was. Bit by bit my ego was repaired watching them get washed one after the other.
I now know what it feels like to get hit by a ski and my face still hurts but I would do it again!
