Supply the help then.... It is what this thread is all about.

A lack of knowledge is dangerous and in this case it's fatal.

The member in question is not advocating DIY in the least.

He pretends to be the helper but in reality he has a factory with more equipment you can shake a stick at.

Do you have a lathe, four spray guns etc???????

Think about this for a minute.

The average Sealiner is a fisherman and for the few who feel they have the talent all they want is to build a few lures that will maybe catch fish.

bj is just showing you what he has, his equipment and his "skill".

Being a big fish in a little pond is good but be realistic. Do you think the only people reading the posts are South African, devoid of any skills and ignorant?.

There are guys viewing this that giggle at the tutorials but don't post because they don't want to embarrass the member.

Find a guy with one airbrush (a cheapie that he at least knows the name of!) that carves his own lures by hand, finishes and fishes, then I'd call that DIY.

This forum has become a battleground for who has the most equipment etc.

Airbrushing for dummies!!! Maybe it should read by dummies.

No disrespect here but really.....

I beg to differ from you in a big way. Not to be nasty, but it is clear that you do not know a thing about the person that Bennie is, and I find this open and direct attack on him revolting to say the least.

Yes, bennie has got an awesome workshop, and good for him, he works damn hard to be able to have that workshop. But, the reality is that his lures are either hand carved and sanded from surfboard foam or turned on a very ordinary wood lathe that is not that expensive or difficult to obtain and use that it would exclude most diy enthusiasts. He is using standard, relatively cheap airbrushes and equipment that is also not out of reach of most diy enthusiasts. The coatings he uses can be obtained at any paint shop that sells automotive paints. And yes, he fishes his own lures, and have landed fish on them!

Furthermore, I think you would be amazed at the number of freebies that he has sent to sealiners all over the country to help them with their own projects. Stencils, lure blanks, foams, etc etc etc.

As for the skills he is showing off..... well, the man has got great skills, and if you have it, flaunt it!!! No crime in that.

You have ruined a post that have been of great value to myself and I am sure many other diy enthusiasts. Why could you not just share something useful????

Basic air brushing by a dummy for dummies.

RR - mabe you don't read too well?! No-one is claiming to be an expert here, just helping other guys out with the BASICS! At least some guys are humble enough to say that they are not experts... but still try help others - unlike you: "the expert"!!! So if you don't have any decent input on this thread then rather SHUT IT!

I have to admit that I found a lower pressure a whole lot better when it comes to getting detail (sometimes very fine) onto a surface (sometimes a very small surface), having said that the opposite is also true that if you want colours to blend better a higher pressure and a bigger distance between the nozzle and the workpiece generates the best quality of airbrushing wrt blending shades and colours (like spraying 3d flames etc)

Hi Weasel,

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun but I use it to clean my airbrushes in the following manner,

1. I pour out the unused paint,

2. get thinners in there, shake it up a bit, pour that out into some 2lt coke bottle (cut in half)

3. pour more thinners into the brush, block the nozzle with my finger, press and have the air blow back into the brush cleaining up the needle and nozzle etc.

4. then stick the brush into the pot (the pot has to have a little bit of water in it to trap the paint and thinners) spray some take out close the nozzle again, back into the pot and spray and so forth,

5.I sometimes run this excercise twice through, especially with the specialised paints that seems a little more stubborn to get out.

LGF what make airbrush you using ? if its a full stainless gun you can try acetone to clean with , but be warned its more corrosive than thinners so all plastic parts need to be cleanes and dried off soonest. the thinner the nozzle the lower the working pressure you can get away with 2BAR for 0.25 nozzle works well same pressure with a 1.0mm nozzle wont work great .

I've been lurking for a while on the forum, jointing mainly for the DIY section, I have had nothing to add though so have just been reading and absorbing the wealth of knowledge. This post, although fairly old, is the information I have been searching for and would just like to say a big thanks for the knowledge shared......
