Ahoi All, Angola holds a whole aquarium in stall for those who take their time to search. My son celebrated his 8th birthday on Friday and "make a wish" wanted to see some whales on Saturday. Can try, said I, and we invited a couple of friends from the German community to tagg along.

Come Saturday morning and we shake off the Caipirinha hangover, throttle "Djamila2"s 200 horses and take to 330 degrees compass.

With the help of my sharp outlookers we see swarms of sardine, some the size of a footballfield and boiling with mating fish; though no signal of predators under them... you guessed it: I brought along the small outfit "just in case".

The balmy seas allow spotting all the way to the horizon. Here's a big manta ray as a first "teaser" of what's still to come.

... and here's your birthday whale, a humpback, Dear Raoul.

.... and while we are so nicely in "business" Supreme Angolan Seagoodess "Kianda" brings out all she has to offer: a family of big Dolfin displaying their air show.

as you see from the pics, we are back close to land. My preferred spot in the shipwreck cemitary under the "Dande" Cliffs.

... it's always fun to have these intelligent animals around... say the dolfins and one wonders who is the observer and who the observed...

... leaves us to explore the balmy conditions and ride "Djamila2" closely under the cliffs. It's no surprise when the diving plugs find hungry mouths... first is Pete, who never fished in "salt" before, let alone in wintery cold Angola: Watch the pullover, jeans and screeming reel.

we only need another baracuda perhaps for the Sunday braii and will retreat to the NAUTICO club... and here it comes

... and so we pull away from the cliffs reluctantly... it's just too interesting for our first timers...

clouds and a bit of breeze make us consider the remaining 25km to the bay, but we cannot pass up on the "Conquistador" wreck..., just look at all those echos!

... so my friend Stefan (Geo Eng. from Windhuk) takes the controls and lets me fire a popper at the wreck... two casts for a shaddow to follow the yozuri tailwalker, which tremosso brought from RSA... another five for a burst in the water... and another one finally to get us a middleclass Jack Crevalle. This rounds off the day, invitations for the Sunday braii quickly issued and we head for the pier...

... back on terra firma Raouli's brother eagerly awaits us with the fish trolley. That evening we will have "fishfingers" in beer/mustard batter... jummy!

Happy birthday again, my BIIIIG Raouli. I think the mighty KIANDA has presented you with the full set of gifts on display that day! Lucky you! Have a terrific year, my son!

Just great to have the privilege of living in such a marine environment and be hable to pass our passion for the sea to the following generation.
