Affordable PLace on Zambezi /or Moz for Tiger fshing???Help needed

Hi Guys

I would like to do a trip up to the Zambezi next year or Cahorra Bassa to fish for Tiger. I'm looking for an affordable place to go. As long as i've got a roof over my head, a decent boat and guide and a good stretch of river i will be happy as a pig in Sh!t. I am more than willing to drive in, has anyone got any details/contacts for me!

Most of these places cater for people that earn Dollars unfortuntely i'm not one of these people...please share some info if you have..Greatly appreciated

Okay Guys I just got back from the Caprivi - Saturday Night.

Leaving for Zim/ Zambia Early next week - Going fishing again.......DAMN

What Type of Accomodation are you looking at?
Camping?
Self Catering?
Full Board?
5 Star?

Our biggest expense was fuel....

Time of year is critical.

I would be happy to organise a trip and lead it for you guys but I need to know your budget.......

But for a Weeks fishing you are looking at about 5 - 10k per person irrespective of whether or not you use my services.

Is it worth it - YES

Caprivi - NO - overfished and the fishing pressure on the river is extremely high in and around Katima (well at least for tiggers - Bream are plentyful but if you donot know what you are doing eish them sqeuakers are going to have much fun with you) There are also gill nets in every Sloep/lagoon and everysingle piece of structure (Rietbos, laydowns etc) very sad.

I still had a great trip and caught decent bream but the big tigers were just not there - biggest I saw for the week was one of 1.7kgs......

Looked on internet saw a place called Kalizo Lodge have you heard of it? Any good? This is however in Caprivi!!!Really worrying about what you saying about Caprivi...If not Caprivi where else to catch em big ones?

I would be looking at self catering, R5k would be good for me...as i'll have to pay for me missus as well.Driving in to keep costs down.

Most important thing for me is a clean, safe place to sleep at night with rustic abode is cool. Good fishing and decent boats as well as skippers/guides.

Zambezi is 2800km long and is full of tiger....

By all means make the trip to the Caprivi but as they say - you get what you pay for...

We camped R75 pppn (Lodge has awesome facilities and are very hospitable)
We took our own boat and fuel.

Boat hire is R700 per day and you must still pay for fuel as extra so you are looking at minimum 1k per day for Boat and fuel.

Quality of guides - can't tell you as I did not fish with them....... What I can tell you is that we produced better fish on lure than what they did...

2700km round trip (work out your fuel based on this)

Cross border taxes etc etc etc R600

Accomodation en route

Food and drink - Extra

Sorry I don't want to dampen your spirits but in many ways it may be more adviseable to fly - time = Money and it takes two days to get up and two back....So that means only 3 days fishing time in a weeks stay. Consider your options very carefully

For me the trip was worth it (I wanted to catch Bream and big ones) and this we achieved.
My boat partners were very dissapointed - they wanted tigers and other than hooking and loosing 2 tigers in the 6kg catagory biggest tiger we managed was just short of 1kg.
We chatted to many of the other anglers both at the lodge and on the river - they too did not have nice things to say about the fishing - again tiger related.

My feeling if it is tiger you are chasing - hard work and time of year selection I would rather go to JOZINI you money will go much further.

The zambezi is still a special place for me as it was the river that I was born on and grew up on and I will be there again next week in a wilder newer area but it cost $$$ to go there - where-ever you go.

So if i wanted to go to the Zambezt etc to target Tiger where would you suggest that is still good and affordable?

And where are you headd off to know

Good and affordable.......... Hard combination.

Kariba is a good option - with the current economic situation there competition is fierce between operators.

Chirundu Zimbabwe is also a good option.

Vic Falls is another option but tigers are smaller.

What the prices are - your guess is as good as mine.

I am heading off to a part of the river Close to Vic Falls that has very little boat/river traffic
