‘Spinning Out of Control’

Hi Guys.
Trying to get into the spinning for gamefish from the shore. Have had my tackle for a month and a half, and have not made a single cast yet. Strangely that has not stopped me from buying. I am infatuated with these Max rap lures from rapala and constantly check local tackle stores for different patterns that imitate our sardines and haarder. Bought the Assasin spin 10ft as well as Shimano Exage 8ft and have my accessories.

I have been strongly advised to stop buying and start fishing. Lol

This brings me to my point. I would love my first outing to be a success and hope that it would be. Hope to make a quick cast this Saturday morning. Given weather patterns and secret fishing rapports, any tips on where I could start Saturday morning.

Hey mate ,

Welcome to the world of spinning, unfortunately the lure addiction never stops and you will always won't more ..... after a year you will have plenty plenty more trays filled with lures .

I have no will power and have stopped going to any tackle stores purely because off impulse buying 😡 , I just buy online instead 😂

I can't help you with spots , but go have a cast with the rapala lures before you buy any more . They are very well made , sexy looking lures and do catch along of fish , but imo they cast like sh!t and are not suited to land based game when you are trying to cover as much water as possible to find the fish .
In the river systems and off a boat where you don't need long casts they are great . I have a few of them , have given a lot away , when conditions suite they do get used alot , but if it's breezy they stay in the tray .

Good luck in finding a few fish , hopefully the fishos closer to you will put you in the right direction.

Those Max raps are killer for Elf in estuaries.
Also work in the surf, but as willo said, getting distance is difficult.

I don't know any spots around Cape Town, but my guess would be some estuary might be the best place to start off.

Wait till you realize that those rapalas are meant to be pulled behind a vessel..so you get a kayak..then after realising the limitations of the kayak, you have to get a boat..Then after your car is rusted to $hit after many happy launches, you realize that you need to save for a bigger boat and a newer bigger car to tow it with..it is a deep, deep hole. But ja enjoy the toys.. :)

Or just try to go fish with some guys who know the deal and save yourself a world of trouble and cash.

Youre not done yet, you still need at least a few bucktails and paddletails! 

...and where are your Onda stickbaits?  1 plug is insufficient, plus you need a popper!

Lol guys. Thanks for the advise. Decided to go have a cast at Bikini Bay this morning. No ladies in Bikinis and no fish. Lol
The mission will continue tomorrow; perhaps at Zandvlei.
You guys were spot on regarding the casting factor for the Rapalla Max Rap. The exage could only manage about 40m although the swimming action of the max rap was fantastic.

I have seen another interesting lure, Shimano Waxwing. Big Catch appears to be the only tackle store that has them in stock.

Arniej the first thing I would do is replace the trebles with single hooks. That will improve your spoon retention without a major (if any) difference in hook ups. It also makes catch and release a lot less hassle.

waxwing casts like a wet carpet.

The baby 66mm and the boy 88mm cast like bullets , the rest of them cast worse than a wet carpet .....
things don't know which way they are trying to fly with those wings , more of a drunk monkey falling out a tree instead of a bird gliding over the horizon

Got anything at Zandvlei? The Palmiet River between Bettysbay and Kleinmond is also an option. You can take the family with for an outing. There are braai spots as well.
