I have a 11ft Aerocast and a Gosa 6000 SW. I mainly use the rod with the Gosa 6K but also with a Stradic 5K. It just feels better balanced with the bigger reel though.
Anyway, yes you can use braid with the rod. I use 20 & 30lb braid without a problem. Lure weight, rated 100g, and I would say you can safely throw up to 3-3,5oz plugs with it. Personally I don't like trowing big heavy lures and will stick to anything from 1,5-2,5oz.

I had a 11ft coupled with a Daiwa Saltist 4500H and was perfect so the 5k shimmie will be a great fit! Rod is indeed braid friendly so no worries there. Also agree with Blikkies on the casting weights! Sold my setup but I think I will get a replacement soon enough
