Hi there everyone          

Been  fishing in the sea for the past 20yrs and have decided to try my hand at this dropshot thing.

I have been browsing around this site and have bought a Daiwa Exceller  2500 with 6lb fireline

Now all I need is a rod, it must be able to throw a 1/16 to 1/14 weight

Have read through other threads on power and action etc

I am thinking about this rod  Daiwa Firewolf Spinning Rod FW 702MLFS

It has a fast action, 7ft but has Medium Light power

Is this going to be undergunned against kingies and shads?

Also ideas for other rods please

It probably will be undergunned bud. A more versatile rod would be a medium heavy action, that would cover all species you would expect on dropshot, including a few biggies. Try the Shimano Beastmaster 7ft medium heavy ??- Nice reel though!

Hey Salted

If price is a concern maybe consider the Daiwa Megaforce Range as they are great value for money ( about R200.00) or if want to spend a little more why not the new Daiwa Exceler ranger ( I saw one going for R445.00) and it felt great.

Hey salted....judging by your taste in reels and line goes i would think its safe to assume pricing on a rod for u aint a major constraint so i would just add to the list of rods the other blokes suggested ...berkley series 1 dropshot 7ft rod,its a blue rod and it sells for approx. R650.....a really good fast action rod with enough pulling power...seen the lads on the berkley dvd and good o'l hennie papenfuss(big fish safari) using it ...it would be a perfect balance for your excellor
